Adult League Rules And Regulations

 

Adult Hockey League Rules and Regulations: 

 

Division I: Comprised of Upper Level hockey players who have had experience at the college, high school, amature hockey level and'or in a upper level adult hockey program.  Division I is appropriate for those who have proficient ice hockey skills combined with the desire to play at a competitive level.  The league maximum is 6 teams for this division

Division II: Comprised of average hockey players who possess decent puck handling, skating, passing and shooting skills while participating in an Intermediate team play atmosphere.  Players who grew up playing travel or high school hockey or have these skills should play in this league.  The league maximum is 8 teams for this division.

Division III: For hockey players who are not necessarily new to the game but have basic puck handling, skating, passing and shooting skills.  Teams play in a Recreational team play atmosphere.  Players who grew up playing house or started hockey as an adult should play in this league,  The league maximum is 6 teams for this division.

 This is a NON CONTACT hockey league.  Full equipment is highly recommended.  Helmet, Gloves, Skates, Elbow Pads and Shin Pads are mandatory.

 

Player Responsibilities:

  • League fee’s are to be paid in full before the 1st game.
  • No participant will be allowed on the ice until full payment has been received.
  • Each Participant is required to sign in before each game.  . 
  • Each Participant is required to fill out a registration form with all their contact information (If not already on file).
  • Each Participant is required to respect the rules and regulations of the Independence Events Center
  • Each Participant is required to be courteous and respectful to all Staff members
  • Each Team is responsible for keeping the locker rooms clean.
  • All Teams are subject to ‘shuffling rosters.’  If a team is too skilled, players will be moved around until the league is evenly distributed.

Player Substitutions: No team is allowed player subs if 8 or more of their rostered players are in attendence.  Team must play short.  In the event of player substitutions, the participant must be approved by the League Commissioner in advance.    A $20 substitution fee will apply to each substituted player.  Player subs must play at appropriate level (no ringers!!).   This includes goalies (goalies are exempt from $20 substitution fee). 

 

 

PLAYOFFS:

TWO TEAMS WHO END THE REGULAR SEASON WITH THE MOST POINTS WILL PLAY IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.  IN THE EVENT OF A TIE, THE FOLLOWING TIE BREAKERS WILL APPLY:

1. MOST WINS

2. GOALS AGAINST

3. GOALS FOR

4. LEAST PENALTY MINUTES

5. COIN FLIP / BRIBE COMMISSIONER

**PLAYOFF ROSTER: PLAYER MUST PLAY IN AT LEAST 4 REGULAR SEASON GAMES TO BE ELIGABLE FOR PLAYOFFS**

 

The League Abides By The USA Hockey Rules and Regulations.  However, In Addition To The USA Hockey Rules and Regulations The Following Policies Apply:

  • Absolutely NO Fighting! 

1st offense: 2 Game Suspension.

2nd offense: Minimum 5 Game Suspension Possible Removal From League

  • Try not to help break up any scuffles or fights… Odds are you will get penalized
  • Instigating Penalties Will Be Strongly Enforced
  • Off-Ice Offense: Minimum 5 Game Suspension / Possible Removal From League
  • Any intent to injure – Ejected From Game + Additional 2 Game Suspension / Possible Removal From League
  • 4 Penalties In A Game:  Ejected From Game
  • 5+ Penalties In A Game: 1 Game Suspension
  • All Suspensions will be reviewed by the League Commissioner and are not subject to debate.  Additional penalties can occur pending on the severity of the infraction.  League Commissioner reserves the right to remove anyone from the league for conduct detrimental to their team/league.
  • Verbal and physical abuse of officials and arena personal will not be tolerated. Abuse of any

official (on/off ice) will not be tolerated by the league. The league, in its sole discretion, reserves

the right to suspend or terminate any player from the league for detrimental behavior. All reviews

will be made on a case-by-case basis by the league commissioner and will consist of information

from teams, referees, scorekeeper and arena personal. At all disciplinary hearings the player and

team captain shall meet with the league commissioner/disciplinary committee.

 

  • The league reserves the right to block participation of players in any division. Players

playing “down” (or up) a division will be subject to evaluation by the league commissioner to

determine eligibility to play. Please be sure that you assign players to your teams based on their

ability to play (or not play) in the division that you are applying to. 

 

If you are ejected from the league you are no longer allowed in the arena during Adult Hockey functions and you must submit a letter to the league if you wish to request reinstatement for the next session.

 

  To Avoid Penalties, Please Read The Following League Standard’s Of Play:

  • The use of the stick will be limited to only playing the puck.
  • The stick will not be allowed to in any way impede a player’s progress.
  • The use of a free hand/arm will not be allowed to grab or impede a player’s progress.
  • Players who use their physical skills and/or anticipation and have a positional advantage shall not lose that advantage as a result of illegal acts by the opponent.
  • Players will be held accountable for acts of an intimidating or dangerous nature.

Enforcement Standard – These penalties are to be called with very strict enforcement 

HOOKING

  • A player cannot use his/her stick against an opponent’s body (puck carrier or non-puck carrier) to gain a positional advantage. Examples include:
    • tugs or pulls on the body, arms or hands of the opponent which allows for the space between the players to diminish 
    • placing the stick in front of the opponent’s body and locking on – impeding the opponent’s progress or causing a loss of balance. 
    • stick on the hand/arm that takes away the ability for the opponent to pass or shoot the puck with a normal amount of force

TRIPPING

  • A player cannot use his/her stick on the legs or feet of an opponent in a manner that would cause a loss of balance or for them to trip or fall. Examples include:
    • placing the stick in front of the opponent’s legs for the purpose of impeding progress, even if on the ice, with no effort to legally play the puck
    • placing the stick between the legs of the opponent (can opener/corkscrew) that causes a loss of balance or impedes the progress of the opponent.

HOLDING

  • A player cannot wrap his/her arms around an opponent or use a free hand to clutch, grab or hold the stick, jersey or body on the opponent in a manner that impedes their progress. Examples include:
    • wrapping one or both arms around the opponent along the boards in a manner that pins them against the boards and prevents them from playing the puck or skating 
    • grabbing the opponent’s body, stick or sweater with one or both hands
      - using a free arm/hand to restrain or impede the opponent’s progress

INTERFERENCE

  • A player cannot use his/her body (“pick” or “block”) to impede the progress of an opponent with no effort to play the puck, maintain normal foot speed or established skating lane. Examples include:
    • intentionally playing the body of an opponent who does not have possession or possession and control of the puck. 
    • using the body to establish a ”pick” or “block” that prevents an opponent from being able to chase a puck carrier 
    • reducing foot speed or changing an established skating lane for the purpose of impeding an opponent from being able to chase a puck carrier

Allowed Actions

  • a player is entitled to the ice he/she occupies as long as they are able to maintain their own foot speed and body position between opponent and puck
  • players are allowed to compete for body position using their strength and balance in front of the goal or along the boards

SLASHING

  • The use of the stick will be limited to only playing the puck. Any stick contact, as a result of a slashing motion, to the hands/ arms or body of the opponent will be strictly penalized. In addition, hard slashes to the upper portion of the stick (just below the hands) of an opponent, with no attempt to legally play the puck, shall also be penalized.
